Avrom Brudno
Avrom or Avreml Brudno was a well-known musician and composer in the Vilna ghetto. Many of the ghetto’s most successful songs were his creations, including the melody to ‘Friling’ (Spring), one of the rare love-songs written in 1943 by Shmerke Kaczerginski, as well as the melody to Avraham Sutzkever’s ‘Unter dayne vayse shtern’ (Under your white stars). Both of these songs, originally composed for performance in one of the ghetto’s musical revues, were enormously popular. The composer perished in the Estonian concentration camp Klooga.
